The story:

This collection derives its titles from the women and girls who were killed during the Salem Witch Trials. Pulling inspiration from silhouette portrait art, in which people are simplified into faceless profiles, these pieces reduce the women they represent to braided hair alone—no faces or defining characteristics.

Dimensions:

9 1/2 × 9 1/2 in | 24 × 24 cm

My process:

These pieces take anywhere from three days to one month to create. Each line is individually drawn, then burned into the wood, and each overlapping layer is shaded. I enjoy the process as much as it is a fundamental element in my art. The time spent creating is just as important as the final piece because it rejects all things fast and disposable in our current world.

Materials:

Baltic birch panel, gold leaf, acrylic.
